New words

Harrison said, "Mama" today, finally! He says "Dada" "dog" "hot dog" "shoot" "shirt" Nick even taught him to say "wiener" but he had never said "mama". Can you believe it? Wiener before mama. We were getting ready for church, and he looked right at me and held his arms out and said, "Mama." I scooped him up in my arms and kissed him all over. I am so excited.

We were getting ready to go to Nick's church basketball game and Harrison wanted to try on Nick's sweatband. He loves to go to basketball games. He takes after Nick, you can hardly keep him off the court.

Every morning Harrison wakes up and points to his door and says, "doh doh" (I'm pretty sure this means 'dog'). I put him down and he crawls over to Macy and pets her. He doesn't understand "be soft" yet, we are working on that, so really he kind of whacks the dog in the head. She's still not to sure of him yet, but she takes it like a lady. He loves her to death. The other day we were feeding her our left overs. We toss the food up so she jumps up to get it and Harrison was cracking up. It was so cute.

This is what I found the other day. He unrolled probably half of the roll. You can't just waste that much toilet paper so I just rolled it back up. No one tells you you have to live with saggy rolls of TP after you have kids. :)

You can see that he's wearing the same outfit as the toilet paper picture, that was a fun day. This was probably 10 minutes after I had just folded the clothes and put them away. And to think I couldn't wait until he could get around and entertain himself.

Miracles

I believe in miracles. Usually if Harrison is not completely asleep when you try to lay him down at night he stands up in his crib, cries, and vomits all over everything. Nick and I decided last night, after our almost nightly ritual of cleaning up throw up, that he needed to learn to put himself to sleep. "We do not want to be rocking him to sleep when he's 18," we said. So, tonight we both gave kisses and hugs, said goodnight, and put him in his crib. We were expecting the worst, but it never came. He cried for a minute and then just stopped. We both peeking in his room just to make sure everything was OK and he was sound asleep. Maybe it was just beginners luck, but it was sure nice. We'll see what happens tomorrow. This could be the beginning of something wonderful. :)
Here are a few pictures from Harrison's birthday party.

January 7th

Today was Harrison's first birthday. We made it to one year old. I have been looking back at all the pictures we have taken and I can't believe how much he has grown. I hardly even remember how little and tiny he was. I guess part of me misses my little baby. Today I found myself holding him longer after I rocked him to sleep for bed, and trying to cuddle him more (which he does not like). I'm happy that he is a little older now too. I love to make him giggle and I LOVE that he is sleeping through the night. He is walking...sort of. He needs a little help to stand up, but then he lets go and is on his way. We went and got his one year pictures today and the little stinker wouldn't even smile. The lady put us in the first photo spot (the one where if you are walking around the mall you can watch the people get their pictures done). With the entire mall watching Nick and I were acting like dorks trying to get him to laugh and he refused to crack even one smile. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes. When I held him for the first time I couldn't have imagined what the year would bring. It's been so wonderful, and we are looking forward to many more.

My 5 most favorite things about him are:

1 He has the best laugh.

2 He loves our dog "ce ce" (her name is really Macy).

3 If I can't get him to eat anything else, he will always eat a pancake.

4 He lets me sing him to sleep and he doesn't care that I don't have the best singing voice.

5 He gives me the biggest kisses when I come home from work.

I have 2 New Years resolutions. First, I am going to try not to forget anyone's birthday. This is my resolution every year and I usually make it until about August. This year, however, will be different. I am not the best at keeping a journal or scrapbook, and therefore not the greatest at keeping track of important milestones like first teeth, first steps, etc. So, my second New Years resolution is to start a blog, that way all those important moments hopefully won't get missed. I know it's already the 5th of the month but I have an excuse... we had a very very old and slow computer. we could hardly check our email. We bought a new one this weekend and now I can begin...

We had a great Christmas. Christmas is fun again when you have kids. Harrison loved to open his presents. I think his favorites were his basketball hoop (he loves to dunk the ball), and his 4-wheeler. He pushes the thing all over the house going, "vroom, vroom". It's pretty cute. Once in a while he even grabs the handle bar and STANDS on the seat. He is very daring and always pushing the limits. I wonder who he belongs to...
